How Do You Light an Infused Pre-Roll?
Light an infused pre-roll by toasting the tip, not torching it. Hold the flame just below the end and rotate the pre-roll slowly until the whole edge glows evenly, then take a slow, gentle puff. Infused pre-rolls burn slower than plain ones, so keep puffs relaxed and relight the same way if it goes out.

Why do infused pre-rolls need a different technique?
Concentrate and kief burn differently from plain flower. The oil makes an infused pre-roll burn slower and hotter, and a kief coating can flare for a moment when the flame first touches it. Light it like an ordinary cigarette, with the flame jammed into the tip and a hard pull, and you're likely to scorch the outside, waste concentrate and start an uneven burn.
A gentler technique gives you a smoother start, better flavor and a pre-roll that burns evenly all the way down.
What's the step-by-step method?
- Hold the pre-roll horizontally, with the twisted end facing the flame.
- Keep the flame just below the tip, not in it: you want to heat, not burn.
- Rotate the pre-roll slowly so the whole edge warms evenly. This is called toasting.
- When the edge glows all the way round, bring it to your lips and take a slow, gentle puff.
- Check the cherry, the glowing tip. If one side is darker, touch it briefly with the flame.
A hemp wick or a simple butane lighter both work. Strong torch lighters are easy to overdo on an infused pre-roll.
How should you puff on it?
Slowly. Short, gentle puffs keep the burn even and the smoke cool. Long, hard pulls make the cherry burn hot and fast, which wastes concentrate and can make one side run ahead. Let the pre-roll rest between puffs, held level rather than pointed up or down.
Effects from smoking arrive within minutes and keep building, so after a puff or two, give it a few minutes before taking more. Our start low, go slow post explains why.
What should you do if it goes out?
Infused pre-rolls go out more often than plain ones because they burn slowly. That's normal. Tap off any loose ash, then relight exactly as you did the first time: flame just below the tip, rotating until it glows evenly. Avoid holding the flame on one spot.
If you're saving the rest for later, let it go out on its own or gently tap the cherry out; crushing it can break the paper. Put it back in its tube once it's completely cool.
What are the common mistakes?
- Torching the tip directly, which scorches the paper and the kief.
- Pulling hard while lighting, which drags the flame in and burns unevenly.
- Lighting in the wind, which makes one side burn faster.
- Smoking a pre-roll that's been stored somewhere damp; see how to store pre-rolls.
If it starts to run down one side anyway, our uneven burn guide shows how to fix it.
Is a lighter or a hemp wick better?
Both work. A standard butane lighter is quick and easy to control; just keep the flame below the tip. A hemp wick, a cord coated in beeswax, gives a smaller, gentler flame, and many people prefer it because the wick burns instead of the butane flame touching the pre-roll directly. Matches work too, if you let the sulphur burn off first.
What to avoid is a strong torch lighter held right against the tip. It's easy to scorch the paper and burn off the kief and concentrate before you've taken a puff. Whatever you use, light up somewhere safe, away from anything flammable, and never leave a lit pre-roll unattended.
Does this work for every Jeeter pre-roll?
Yes. The same technique suits the Infused 1g, the Jeeter XL, Baby Jeeter half grams, Quad-Infused and Cannon pre-rolls. Larger pre-rolls like the XL take a little longer to toast evenly. Always smoke in a safe place, away from anything flammable, and never drive after using cannabis.
