How Do You Use a 510 Cartridge?
To use a 510 cartridge, screw it gently onto a charged 510-thread battery until it stops, then inhale slowly through the mouthpiece, pressing the button if your battery has one. Start on the lowest setting, take short puffs and store the cart upright. Jeeter Juice and 510 Postless carts both work this way.

What does 510 mean?
510 is the name of the most common thread size for vape cartridges and batteries. Because almost every cartridge and battery maker uses it, a 510 cart from one brand fits a 510 battery from another. That's the whole point: you buy the battery once and swap carts as you like.
At ShopJeeter, two lines use this standard: Jeeter Juice 1g cartridges and 510 Postless carts. Batteries are sold separately. If you'd rather not deal with a separate battery at all, an All-in-One vape has one built in.
How do you attach a cart to the battery?
- Charge the battery first. A flat battery is the most common reason a new cart 'doesn't work'.
- Remove the cart's mouthpiece cover and any rubber plug on the bottom thread.
- Hold the cart upright and screw it onto the battery gently, just until it stops. Over-tightening can damage the contact pin.
- If your battery has a button, check its instructions: many turn on with five quick clicks.
That's it. There's no filling and no setup beyond that.
How do you take the first puff?
Inhale slowly and steadily through the mouthpiece for two or three seconds. On a button battery, hold the button while you draw; on a draw-activated battery, just inhale. Slow, gentle draws give better flavor and help prevent clogs, while hard, fast pulls can flood the airway with oil.
Cannabis from a vape is felt within minutes, but the effect keeps building for a while after. Take one or two small puffs, then wait before deciding whether you want more. Our post on starting low and going slow explains why that matters.
Which battery setting should you use?
Many 510 batteries offer a few heat settings, often shown as colored lights. Start on the lowest one. Lower settings protect the flavor and are gentler on the oil; higher settings make bigger, hotter clouds and use the oil faster. Only step up if the vapor feels too thin.
Some batteries also have a short preheat mode that warms the cart without firing it, which helps if the oil is thick on a cold day. Our 510 battery settings guide goes into more detail.
What are the most common first-time mistakes?
- Forgetting the bottom plug: many carts ship with a small rubber stopper on the thread.
- Over-tightening: screw the cart on only until it stops, or you can bend the contact pin.
- Pulling too hard: a strong, fast draw floods the airway with oil. Slow and steady works better.
- Starting on the highest setting: it burns flavor and can scorch the oil. Start low.
- Taking several puffs in a row: wait a few minutes after the first one or two.
None of these will ruin a cart if you catch them early. If a cart still won't hit after checking these points, see our clogged cart guide.
How do you carry a cart safely?
Unscrew the cart from the battery when you carry it, or switch the battery off, so it can't fire in a pocket or bag. Keep the cart upright in its tube if you can, and don't leave it in a hot car, where the oil can thin and leak. Cannabis can only be used where it's legal for adults 21 and over, and crossing state lines with it is illegal even between legal states; our post on travelling with cannabis explains the rules.
How do you look after a 510 cart?
- Store it upright, so oil sits over the wick and away from the mouthpiece.
- Keep it at room temperature, away from hot cars, windowsills and freezers.
- Keep the threads clean: lint or oil on the contacts can stop the battery from firing.
- Keep it out of reach of children and pets, like all cannabis products.
If the cart stops hitting, the cause is usually a flat battery, a dirty contact or thick oil. Our clogged cart guide walks through the fixes in order.
