How Long Does a 1g Cart Last?
A 1g cart can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. It depends on how long each puff is, your battery's heat setting and how often you vape. Short draws on a low setting stretch a gram much further than long, hot pulls. Watching the oil level is the easiest way to keep track.

Why is there no single answer?
A cart holds about a gram of oil, but how much oil each puff uses varies a lot. A two-second puff on a low setting uses a fraction of what a long draw on a high setting does. Add in how many times a day someone vapes, and two people can get very different lifespans from the same cart.
So rather than a promise, here are the factors that matter and how to make a cart last longer.
What makes a cart run out faster?
- Long draws: every extra second at the coil turns more oil into vapor.
- High heat settings: more power, more vapor, more oil per puff.
- Frequent sessions: several puffs, several times a day, add up quickly.
- Sharing: a cart passed around a group empties much faster.
- Leaks: storing a cart on its side or somewhere hot can waste oil.
How do you make a cart last longer?
- Use the lowest heat setting that gives a good puff; see our 510 battery settings guide.
- Take short, slow draws of two or three seconds.
- Wait a few minutes between puffs; effects build after you inhale.
- Store carts upright at room temperature to avoid leaks and clogs.
Waiting between puffs has a second benefit: it's the best way to find the amount that suits you. Our post on starting low and going slow explains why.
Do All-in-Ones last longer than carts?
The oil lasts about the same, since both formats hold around a gram. The difference is the battery: with a cart, you keep and recharge the battery and only replace the cart. With an All-in-One, the battery is built in and goes with the device when it's empty. Our All-in-One vs 510 cart post compares the two in more detail.
Does how you store a cart affect how long it lasts?
Yes. A cart stored on its side or in a warm place can leak a little oil into the mouthpiece or the battery connection, which is oil you never get to use. Heat also thins the oil and can speed up leaks, while cold thickens it and makes clogs more likely. The best spot is upright, at room temperature, away from sunlight.
Air and light slowly degrade cannabis oil over time, which can soften both flavor and effect. If you buy several carts, keep the spares sealed in their packaging until you need them, and finish one before opening the next.
Is it worth tracking how much you use?
For many people it is. Noting roughly how many puffs a session takes, and how you felt afterwards, makes it easier to find the amount that suits you and to notice if you're using more than you meant to. It also makes it easier to compare strains and formats fairly. If you'd like to cut back, longer gaps between sessions and fewer puffs per session will also make each cart last longer.
How can you tell when it's nearly empty?
Most carts have a clear tank, so you can see the oil level. Postless carts make this especially easy because there's no centre post in the way; see what is a postless cartridge?. When the oil gets low, puffs may taste weaker or slightly burnt; that's the cue to stop rather than keep firing a nearly empty coil.
